As A Rising Senior, It’S Easy To Forget How Many Years

As a rising senior, it’s easy to forget how many years have gone by since I arrived at Rutgers University. Accompanying those many years are memories of joy and hardship, which have provided valuable insight and promoted my growth. When I first arrived here on the banks, I came in timid and reserved. I had a large number of high school friends attending the school and had resolved to keep in touch with them rather than making new friends. In fact, if it were not for my roommate, I may not have even gotten close to some of the people in my first year residence hall. Beyond the sheer volume of students that came from my high school to Rutgers, I had grown up in a very diverse and opinionated city. Since my first year, I have become more accustomed to holding conversation with people I do not know. I now teach study groups where students who did not know me at the beginning of the year, are now messaging me on Facebook if I can bring Advil to study group for them. It has become a point of pride for me to build these relationships with people by communicating with them and hearing out there issues to build a circle of trust. As an RA/AA this is an important trait to have as you work towards building your community. As an RA/AA you want your residents to know who you are and you want to be present and know about them personally. Being able to communicate and build these relationships will make the job of being an RA/AA easier as residents will want to engage with you, come to your events, and respect you carrying out your duties rather than viewing you as someone to avoid. While I have grown more antiquated to socializing and building relationships, there is room for me to grow. As much as I enjoy speaking with others, it normally takes a small nudge to get me talking. This is something I need to work on improving as I transition into the role of being an RA/AA, as I need to be the first one to reach out to my residents. Americans take pride in knowing that we are a people of vast ethnic backgrounds and culture. However, at the present time, the flow of illegal immigration, as well as a large influx of other legal immigrants is placing a strain on our land of huddled masses. Legal immigration to the United States can easily be handled and is welcomed by most Americans. Answer: The word healing is derived from the word haelen the literary meaning of which is to make whole. Healing can be defined as the coordination or the harmony of body, mind and spirit. A healing environment is known to considerable reduce the anxiety and stress of a person which in turn promotes the health and wellbeing of a person (Mike W. Martin, 2009). A healing hospital provides mental healing of the patient along with the physical cure. The philosophy of the healing hospitals are based on the holistic approach of care and supports both physical and mental health of the patients (Ananth Smith, 2008). There are three major components of a healing hospital. These are a physical healing environment, integration of technology and a radical loving care culture (Gearey, 2007). All the three components are very important to provide success to the healing hospitals. The first component of a healing hospital is to create a physical environment of healing. This includes generating a quite environment that allows a patient to sleep which in turn helps the regeneration of his cells, making the healing process faster. The quite environment also reduces the stress of the patients as well as the family members and the care givers (Ziegler, 2008). In order to provide a quite environment to the patients various physical changes are needed to be done in the hospital. For example, carpeting the patients surrounding areas, using silencer in the machines etc. Another component is the integration of technology. This component allows the patient to conserve their dignity during hospitalization. It also offers patients with entertainments that can be availed in room. The advanced technology is also associated with increased speed of care which is known to decrease the anxiety of the patients (Prasetyono, 2009). The other component is the radical loving care culture, which is the main component of the healing environment. The culture of love and care can be fostered in the hospital environment when the healthcare workers remain committed to provide the patients with an environment of loving care that is directed to individual patients (Shelley, 2015). This component not only emphasized on meeting the physical need but also the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient. Healing is closely related to spirituality. It has been found that spirituality accelerates the healing process of a patient, by importing the positive thinking and hope in the patient (Powell, 2005). Spirituality is also associated with the reduction of stress and anxiety in the patients (Fisher, 2004). So, the health care professionals should not discourage the spiritual beliefs of a patient, rather they should respect the spiritual thoughts of the patients in order to promote the healing process. Creating a healing environment in the hospital is a challenging process. There are several barriers that the hospitals have to overcome in order to provide the patients with an effective healing environment. One of the major challenges that the hospitals face is the financial barrier. The changes that are needed for providing a quite environment to the patients i.e. carpeting the floors, using silencers in the machines etc. are costly (Ananth Smith, 2008). Another important challenge that the hospitals have to face is the challenge regarding the bringing of the various hospital staffs together with the healing philosophy. It is very important to make the staffs understand that they are needed to be a part of a patients life during the stressful time and they are able to make differences in his or her life with each encounter. Another potential challenge is the integration of technology and work design. It is important for the hospitals to increase the efficiency of the staffs. The work design should include increased security and privacy for the patients. The integration of technology includes implementation of advanced technology in order to make the healing process faster. But this technological integration is very costly, which poses barrier to the healing hospitals. The biblical verse of Jeremiah 33:6 is the best fit for the philosophical views of the healing hospitals. This verse depicts the importance of health and healing in order to enjoy the security and peace of life (Leathard, 2003). The philosophy of the healing hospitals are based on the thoughts of this verse i.e. the care givers are not only associated with the physical cure of the patient but also are responsible for promoting the spiritual and emotional health of the patients. We witness a similar act where he disposes of the broken razor in the dam and denies any role in the misplacing of the razor. The use of a metaphor in â€Å"rigorous truthfulness could give a person the inner unity necessary for strength of character† is demonstrating what I perceive to be the anxiousness of Romulus that Raimond is adopting qualities of his mother. Its not until later in the novel that Raimond realises of his wrongdoing â€Å"I know what a good workman is; I know what an honest man is; I know what friendship is; I know because I remember these things in the person of my father†. * * Relationships possess great significance in Romulus, My Father. The relationship between Raimond’s parents Romulus and Christine is very fragmented, to which he describes the relationship as â€Å"intense and fraught†. The use of a metaphor in â€Å"Such was the rollercoaster of wild emotion at the time† is effective in highlighting the elevated emotional levels of the period, such as Romulus’s attempted suicide due to Christine leaving him. Christine’s infidelity is further exemplified with Gaita’s use of strong word choice in â€Å"My father must have been heartbroken by his unfathomable, troubled, vivacious†¦Ã¢â‚¬  to emphasise on the unfaithfulness Christine. * * The relationship between Raimond and his mother is another fragmented family relationship. However Raimond feels his â€Å"mothers neglect of me was more then compensated for by her family†. * Barriers influence both Romulus and Christine to a great extent in the transition from Europe to Australia. Christine’s bad asthmatic illness leaves her with an inevitable decision, to immigrate to Australia in order to improve her health. However moving to Australia affects her health on a considerably deeper level mentally. Christine’s isolation, alienation and displacement affect her mentally to the point she can barely function. Her decline leads her to receive electric shock treatment that didn’t help in relieving her hallucinations. The use of alliteration in â€Å" †¦serious attack of asthma after she brought Raimond†¦Ã¢â‚¬  highlights the pinnacle reason for her decline and unhappy life before choosing to end it with an overdose on drugs. * When first immigrating to Australia Romulus faces the barrier of language and communication with others. This barrier prevented belonging into the new society of Australia, until Romulus returned to the camp and connected with the Romanian brothers Hora and Mitru. Gaita’s use of an aside helps the audience to connect with the story and understand difficulty for â€Å"New Australian’s† to converse without language, therefore highlighting the impact on the influences of barriers in relation to belonging. * Correspondingly in Katrina by Bruce Dawe, belonging to place as well as family is also an influence on Katrina’s sense of belonging. Her vulnerability is intensified by the common notion that she is alone in an unwelcoming environment, watched over in â€Å"Ward Fifteen† by a nameless â€Å"Nurse†. He struggles cope with the fact that he may lose his daughter, and in a depressed and distressed stated he aims to call to God in prayer, but is unable to do so. The contrast between her and her twin brother’s two-month-old health figure hurts him a deeper level as it indicates the ultimate frailty of the baby. * * The parental relationships in Katrina and Romulus, My Father both greatly impact belonging; however the relationships are very different. The narrator’s love for Katrina is highlighted by the euphemism â€Å"The karate blow†, this violent image supports his claim that he is not ready to face the fact and lose the little girl. His love for Katrina is further emphasised through the use of a simile in â€Å"your life shines like a jewel†, painting an affectionate image of his value of her spirit. The relationship presents a connection to family as the daughter of two deeply distressed parents validating the importance of relationships and belonging. * * A barrier of health can be acknowledged in both the prescribed and related text. Some of the benefits are lower costs, improved accuracy, and decreased paper output and processing time. One main downfall is the initial cost of the implementation of the system. I will also give you an example of how a company uses this technology. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) as defined by Roger Clarke: the exchange of documents in standardized electronic form, between organizations, in an automated manner, directly from a computer application in one organization to an application in another. EDI has been around for several decades and it has been the primary method of conducting electronic business-to-business commerce. It contains the same information that would be found on paper documents used for the same function within an organization. The following are elements of EDI: * Electronic transmission medium (VAN or the Internet) is used rather than the dispatch of physical storage media such as magnetic tapes and disks. * Structured, formatted messages based on agreed standards (messages can be translated, interpreted and checked). * Fast delivery of electronic documents within hours or minutes from sender to receiver. * Communication directly between applications rather than between computers. Conventional EDI Conventional EDI uses standard formats, American National Standards Institutes (ANSIs) X12 series, which specifies standard fields for invoices, purchase orders, shipping documents, payments and various other data transactions. The EDI software pulls flat files (where links to other data have been removed) from the mainframe systems such as financial and/or order-processing and translates the data into EDI standard forms. Then companies transmit large batches of EDI forms over a third-party value-added network (VAN). VANs make the job of connecting with other trading partners, organizations that receive or send documents from each other, easier by collecting forms in an electronic mailbox. It then sorts, translates and forwards them to recipients and guarantees that they reach their destinations intact. Benefits of conventional EDI are large companies can reduce the amount of errors in relation to re-keying information and decreasing the time and clerical costs of processing paper forms by hand. EDI standards and technologies are dependable, trusted and proven. Information is sent on private lines that have very little exposure to the public and in turn are relatively secure. Also, large volumes of data are moved efficiently through batch transfer of flat files, and established VANs help ease finding trading partners and connecting to their systems. Downfalls of conventional EDI are companies have to link their back-office systems to the EDI software, and then it has to synchronize protocols with their trading partners systems. Compatibility with new applications is difficult because of the complexity of the X12 formats. As a result of the compatibility the process of transferring large batches of data are delayed, which is at odds with todays real-time world. Also, the cost of transmitting data through VANs is very costly at $25 per 1,000 characters, but today costs are getting lower. Because conventional EDI is so rigid, costly and time consuming to initiate, it is only cost-effective for very large companies. For these reasons it keeps the number of EDI participants relatively very low. EDI via the Internet The internet was once thought to be the end of EDI, but instead it has given EDI users new options. EDI via the internet is basically the same as conventional EDI with the exception of how the information is transmitted. EDI transactions can now be sent over the internet instead of sending X12 forms back and forth via VANs. Software products put transactions into encrypted envelopes and then electronically seal them so that only authorized parties with the encryption key can view the contents. The envelopes are then sent over the public internet instead of privately owned VANs. Benefits of sending the transactions over the internet instead of via VANs are it can drastically reduce transmission costs and it is much faster. Also, most companies already have internet access and therefore would not have to pay additional costs to transmit batches over the internet. This would make it easier to attract new trading partners, like mom and pop stores, that have internet connections, but do not have the revenue to invest in VANs. Downfalls of EDI via the internet are questions raised about security, like confidentiality, data integrity, authentication, and denial of having sent or received transactions. Security is only a concern for some not all EDI managers. Another downfall is that the required software must be the same for trading partners at both ends. They must install the same software and coordinate their upgrade cycles. Efforts are being made to make systems compatible and create requirements for EDI over the internet standards, but this takes time and therefore companies are limited to firm EDI formats. Example of EDI Large companies like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. have an EDI-based stock-replenishment system, which sends sales data to suppliers and initiates reordering of hot-selling items. This drastically reduces retailers warehouse inventory costs. Also, this system tells the manufacturers warehouse to ship product direct to a specific retail location. Typical information in a transmission includes a ship to address, bill to address, UPC codes, and quantities. Other information can be included if agreed upon by the trading parties. This process is also practiced by fields such as medicine, transportation, construction, engineering as well as many other industries. The full potential of an EDI system can be best utilized if it is integrated with other applications such as inventory control, shipping, accounts payable and production planning. Unfortunately, suppliers are forced to use the sometimes costly EDI system in order to continue a business relationship with the larger companies. This is not always as cost-effective for suppliers as it is for the larger companies. Summary EDI saves time because it is faster at transmitting data, delivers data with the utmost accuracy, cuts down on paper usage and decreases overall time by eliminating re-keying of information. It is a more stream-lined business process for both trading parties. Benefits can be obtained in areas like administration, inventory management, distribution, and cash management. EDI has its share of problems, but its benefits far exceed them. With the internet it is becoming easier for trading partners to transmit data at a much greater reduced cost to both parties. The next few years hold great promise for EDI and the internet. Existing EDI forms can be kept by trading partners and new ways of transmitting data can be found cheaper, which will enable more new partners.

Why do bad things happen to good people? There is one question that everyone asks but to which no one knows the answer: "Why do bad things happen to good people?" The misfortunes of good people raise problems not only for those who suffer, but also for everyone who wants to believe in a just and livable world and in a fair and compassionate God. Rabbi Kushner, author of "Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People", attempts to bring light to this difficult question. In doing so he evaluates past attempts to explain suffering, offers his own approach to the justification of suffering in today's society, and makes suggestions for how one can deal with suffering and continue his or her journey into the future. This essay will examine these rationales and will conclude with an analysis on how Kushner handles the four foundational sources for understanding the will of God through scripture, tradition, history, and modern context. Kushner evaluates past attempts to explain suffering and discusses why they are not satisfactory. One way in which people attempt to make sense of suffering is to assume that they deserve what they get, and that somehow their misfortunes come as punishment for their sins. This idea portrays God as a righteous judge who is all loving, all-powerful, in total control, and gives people exactly what they deserve. However, Kushner sees major limitations in this idea because it teaches people to blame themselves for their suffering and creates unnecessary guilt. In addition, he argues that it may even turn people away from God and cause them to hate themselves. Victims of misfortune also try to console themselves by believing that God has his reasons for making them suffer, reasons that they are in no position to... ...the scriptures in the Bible. It is no more of a love story than Call of the Wild. I guess because it has a woman and love it constitutes a love story. I agree that Reiz symbolized romantic art and ideals and Mme. Ratignolle. However Edna was less romantic because her confinement was real. Betty Freudian has this same sort of problem in the Feminist Mystique. A physical independence as symbolized by the birds seems to be the best analogy for her needs through out the book. I didn’t think the hypertext guide quite covered this. Birds were present throughout the novel, in dreams and in her life (more than just that parrot). The fact that she was not able to be confined by anything which demanded her caged, her children, her husband. She did not enjoy these people or their cages because they used her for their own gain. A guy suggested in another class that she should have thought about that before she was married and had kids. I guess that would be easy for someone to say who will never bear children or held accountable for their existence, or dependence on him. (NO, not all men are this bad!) Her sorrow over Mme. Ratignolle’s child birth represented a birth in herself. An awakening that she had been reborn. By the way, the hypertext did not explain all the awakenings she under went or parallel them with the times she woke up and went to sleep. She tells her husband that marriage is a â€Å"lamentable spectacle†. At the cottage with Robert, she was not Sleeping Beauty but a Rip Van Winkle. Sleeping Beauty was passive, Edna certainly was not that. The cottage I felt represented indulgence almost gluttony without the negative connotation. She is finally enjoying herself- HER- Self. The church was another oppressive cage in her life. Every mention of it in the book was a negative one although Edna says that she is religious. It just happens that her encounters with it in the book are miserable. In addition, I felt the rings were not explained. There are at least five separate mentions of rings throughout the novel, each at critical times.

The investment of inventory is the accumulation of items which will be used in production such as machinery and vehicles. The government uses these investments to improve the efficiency of their goods and services to distribute to their consumers. Governments also make investments in raw materials. â€Å"1949 – Steel was first nationalised in 1949, and privatised a year later by the new Conservative government. It was re-nationalised in 1967 when over 90 of steel capacity was put under the control of the British Steel Corporation (BSC). Steel was returned to the private sector once more in 1988. † (economicsonline. co. uk) An example of raw materials being nationalized by use of investments in steal is presented above. * â€Å"In 1948 railways were nationalized to help rebuild the network infrastructure and re-equip the rolling stock after the destructive effects of the Second World War. This is an example of inventory investment. More Efficient goods result in more satisfied consumers and the government works towards that aim in ensuring that the public is vastly satisfied with the services and goods provided. Social costs are the costs to society as a whole for producing one additional unit, or taking one more measure in an economy. These cost of producing one extra unit of something is not simply the direct cost sustained by the producer alone, but also must include the costs to the external environment and o ther stakeholders thus effecting the people. A standard example of this is that of a factory the smoke from which has harmful effects on those occupying neighboring properties† (Coase 1). Other social costs could include other forms of pollution, which could arise from the advancements through additional units in production. Another form of pollution consists of excessive garbage pollution. Social costs might as well include solid waste from the garbage trucks on neighborhoods along the routes taken as well as the impacts of solid waste facilities themselves. Moreover, Adverse effects on roperty values, community image, and aesthetics, as well as the increase of noise, odor, and traffic all contribute to social costs. With this said, the state takes it as their responsibility to take these social costs into account so people get compensated, for companies owned and run by the people for the people take social costs into account and the profit goes back to the people. They are allowed to do so as they have the adequate funds and money in their possession in contrast to private owner firms who don’t have the monies available and leave the public to suffer due to social costs.It is also their duty that the public stays with a mutual feeling towards them. Lastly, nationalization in an economy can influence a rise in the economy. Injections into the economy from the government are the really the main sources. We have already covered the point that governments invest in newly nationalized industries in order to make their goods and services more efficient but that is not the only effect it has in a business and economic stand point.Investments not only serve an efficient purpose but these injections are represented in the national income formula as government expenditure and government spending, which when increased results in an increase to national income. The national income formula states that national income equals consumption plus gross private in vestment plus government consumption expenditure plus net exports (Y=C+I+G+X). Knowing this we could say that in a situation where, in a given year national income was five thousand dollars with government expenditure being one thousand dollars.In the following year, the government decides to take over the assets of a coconut products producing plant. The state invests two thousand dollars worth of capital into that firm; this includes investments in raw materials, human capital and inventory. This two thousand dollars goes into the national income equation as an addition to government consumption expenditure raising it from one thousand dollars to three thousand dollars. Hence, national income increases by two thousand dollars taking it to seven thousand dollars. Consumers, governments and economies all benefit from the positive that nationalization imposes when it is implemented.Governments are the main nationalization mechanisms as they are allowed to exhibit their control over t he affairs in an economy and also to represent the people and protect them from the stress bearers known as private owners. Governments can either fully take over an industry or only see that an industry is run under their supervision. Nationalizations are funded by loans and subsidies to help cover production costs without having to operate at a full loss as they do not aim to make maximum profits unlike the private owned firms and companies.At the same time lowering the costs of goods and services distributed to consumers. Out of all the firms which governments may choose to nationalize, national banks are the most popular corporations to be nationalized. Consequently, in doing so government provides the public, access to loans at lower rates. The gap between rich and poor is slightly reduced as exploitation of consumers is condensed. In conclusion, the implementation of nationalization in a country’s economy does have huge positive impacts as consumers, governments and eco nomies benefit.
